BEIJING - A CHINESE man convicted for operating a fake Olympics website to cheat money out of people was on Friday jailed by a Beijing court for six months.
Liao Peigui, a computer engineer, was also given a 2,000-yuan (S$392) fine for cheating 3,000 yuan out of two people lured into paying him 'award acceptance fees' for winning prize draws on his phoney website, Xinhua news agency said.
His victims were told they had won prizes of 28,000 yuan and two tickets for the 2008 Olympic Games.
The official Olympics website, attracts an average 1.1 million page viewings a day, according to the games' organiser. -- AFP
