China calls for water checks after 200 fall ill

BEIJING - CHINA has ordered quality checks on barrelled water around the country after polluted water made more than 200 people sick, newspapers said on Tuesday.

The victims, all from the southwestern province of Guizhou, fell ill with hepatitis A in the last few weeks, the Beijing News said.

'The source of the water was heavily polluted and its production lacked strict sterilization,' the newspaper said, citing the Ministry of Health.

'The ministry has asked related authorities to immediately start inspection to check the quality of barrelled water around the country,' the Beijing Youth Daily said.

State media said last year that China would attach electronic identification labels to every barrel of drinking water in Beijing after a report that almost half the water used in coolers in the Olympics host city could be tainted. -- REUTERS

Ever notice that china has been making ppl sick with all the contaminated food, and drinks... .. it's heavily polluted environment... some of the new diseases arise could also may have came from them due to their exotic food from various animals. More ppl are going to be harmed by them i think .

no wonder countries like germany etc, are not going china for the pre-olympics training. instead, they going japan. maybe that is what china is doing? they taste if the water is bad enough on their own people, then later give to the olympic participants, so that they will be sick and cannot compete etc... then tada~ china wins many medals.... tsk tsk

china peeps can be quite bo-liao sometimes. they boycott french products in china 'cos french protested during the torch relay there -.-" walao, revenge here revenge there, neverending revenge. but really, i think china's way of handling things (e.g. tibet) is too extreme. extremists! and i don't believe they check the water le, the water is safe for drinking lor....
