Chelsea planning move away from the Bridge

LONDON, Nov 24 (Reuters) - English champions Chelsea are drawing up plans to leave Stamford Bridge in a bid to rival Manchester United and become the biggest club in the world, chief executive Peter Kenyon said.

'By 2014 we want to be internationally recognised as the No.1 club,' Kenyon was quoted as saying by British newspapers on Friday.

'I think it's pretty clear we can't get to where we want to here. We have said we would like the stadium to be bigger, but that's not going to be at the expense of moving to Brussels or Milton Keynes.'

Before Sunday's clash at Premier League leaders United, Kenyon also said manager Jose Mourinho was a key part of the club's long-term plans and quashed any talk of him leaving. Mourinho said at the end of last season that he had considered quitting.

Bridge signs new four-year Chelsea deal

Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge has signed a new four-year contract with the Barclays Premiership champions.

The 26-year-old England international had 18 months remaining at Stamford Bridge - but is now contracted with the club until 2010.

The left-back told his club's official website, www.chelseafc.com: 'I feel as though I'm playing well this season.

'I believe that I will continue to get opportunities. It's been a great week for me and I'm delighted to have signed.'

Bridge, whose partner Vanessa gave birth to a boy on Tuesday, joined the club in 2003 from Southampton and had a 12-match spell on loan at Fulham last season.

He has made 85 appearances for Chelsea and has won 24 international caps.

Having missed Wednesday's Champions League defeat at Werder Bremen he returned to training on Thursday and is likely to be in the Blues' squad for Sunday's Premiership match at Manchester United.

i respect you because you've been a fa since 1996, when it wasn't all rosy for them.

I despise those fairweather fans who dumped their Man U/Arsenal memoribilia for Chelsea stuff. Shame on you.
