Total SGC$: 414.75 | Changi Airport gears up for restrictions on liquids from May 8 SINGAPORE : From May 8, Singapore will be implementing new restrictions on what flight passengers can bring in as hand luggage.
Under a new set of rules, the amount of liquids, aerosols and gels passengers can carry onboard will be restricted for all flights leaving Changi and Seletar Airports.
Singapore is also actively helping the International Civil Aviation Organisation to harmonise the security standards adopted by different airports.
Signs and information panels on the restrictions can be found all over the Departure Halls and Departure Transfer Lounges in Terminals 1 and 2, as well as the Budget Terminals.
If passengers must carry liquids, aerosols and gels on board, they have to pack them into a plastic bag which can hold no more than 1 litre.
The bag must also be properly sealed.
Before passengers board the plane, they will be asked to display their packed liquids at the Gate Holdroom.
Changi Airport does not ban water bottles bigger than 100ml, but passengers will have to make sure they are completely empty.
As for the other liquids, aerosols and gels, they must be packed into containers no bigger than 100ml.
Containers bigger than 100ml will not be allowed - even if they are only one-third full or half-filled.
Tables will be set up at the Departure areas for passengers who need to repack their belongings.
And for the first two weeks from May 8, over 100 "airport ambassadors" will be deployed throughout the airport, to help travellers who are not quite sure what to do.
Travellers can still buy duty-free liquids, aerosols and gels such as liquor and perfumes at Changi Airport.
These will be packed into what is known as "tamper-evident bags" by the shops, with the receipt clearly displayed.
But some European airports, like those in Frankfurt, may have stricter restrictions than those prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, and they may not accept these bags.
So travellers transferring via another airport are advised to first check out the liquids restrictions at the airport.
Foo Sek Mink, Director, Airport Management, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, said, "For passengers who may be transferring to other countries, there are some countries that may have restrictions on the liquids that they carry over and above of what is the standard approved by the ICAO. So it wil be prudent for such passengers to check, if they're transferring via another airport, to another country, for example if you're travelling from Singapore to Frankfurt to Munich. Then there could be some restrictions at these airports at Frankfurt. So it will be prudent for passengers to then check on our website on what are the restrictions at these airports.
"On the 30th of March, ICAO issued new guidelines on the types of tamper-evident bags that're required. Continuously there are still improvements to be made. Singapore is actively trying to help harmonise the security measures, so that it will minimise inconvenience to transfer passengers out of Singapore and passengers who are using Singapore as a point."
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has also printed over a million brochures on the new aviation security measures for travellers, airlines, tour agencies and hotels.

to fall in love is always easy
to start a relationship is always simple
to build it, is always tough
to maintain it, is 'better said than done'
to break off, is 'easier said than done'
to remain friends after u broke off, is never possible
to forget the memories is 'always doing but never succeeding'
to heal the pain within is hard and tough and never near simple
but one has to try to heal your own heart...
