NO high heels.
No showing of skin and no fancy dresses.
No wonder Fann Wong is 'upset'.
Fresh from her jaw-dropping man-trapped-in-woman's-body transformation in Jack Neo's movie Just Follow Law, Fann has jumped into another unglamorous character in her new Channel 8 drama, Making Miracles.
In the show, which premieres on Tuesday at 9pm, Fann plays a paediatrician caught in a love triangle with two doctors played by Terence Cao and Darren Lim.
At a press conference last week, the 36-year-old actress complained jokingly about being made to dress down for her role.
'I didn't have mei mei (pretty in Mandarin) costumes to wear, and even when I wore T-shirts, I wasn't allowed to show my waist!' she said.
'So I hated standing next to (my co-star) Constance Song, because she was always stylishly togged out and I felt so inferior next to her.'
Fann's role as the altruistic paediatrician also required much physical interaction with children, which would make wearing high heels impractical.
'I could only wear shirts and T-shirts, nothing too sexy,' she said.
'And you know me, I'm so vain. I like to doll up, so when I can't... (she mimes bursting into tears).'
In addition, her character is disfigured in the latter part of the series.
Fann had to spend up to two hours in the makeup chair to be 'disfigured'.
'I had to wear the makeup for 12 hours at a stretch and when I removed it, my skin would be red and wrinkled. When my manager saw me, she was like, 'What happened to your face?'. But luckily, it went back to normal after a few pinches.'
HER IDEA
But pretend to complain as she might, Fann later admitted that she really didn't mind taking on unglamorous roles.
In fact, it was her idea to chop off her long tresses for Making Miracles.
'I thought that my character would be too pretty with long hair, so I suggested cutting mine to a more practical length.'
Not only did it go down well with the producers, her hairdo was also well-received by her boyfriend, actor Christopher Lee.
With a smile, Fann said: 'Chris loved it. He said I looked boyish when I tied up my hair and gave me a new nickname - 'Boy Boy'.'
