How many of you have actually taken the first step to get out of the rat race and started your own business?

Hmm... for me I've decided to jump out of the rat race. But talking about starting my own business... it's not really that cuz my company's concept is very different and can say that it's leaning towards non-profit and Social Enterprise models.

Money is not the primary concern when doing business. Passion is the main one. If u got a lot of money and do not have the passion to do business, the business will also fails. I myself had started a home business in helping home users and offices on their PC hardware and web design. As I operate from home, the overhead is kept low. Thus I do not need to come out with a lot of capital. The only thing I need to do is to promote my services..

I also run a web hosting business.

I agree that money is never the issue. Passion is the key factor that kills the business. Donald Trump once mentioned in his book called, "Trump 101", that don't waste your time doing something you don't have passion for.

I'm still looking for a partner for web designing though...

I used to be out of the rat-race, but has since returned. Lost my vision for the past 3 years, but have recently been thinking and refocusing again. Nice to see people here thinking the same things, besides the Rich Dad forum.

I'm into web hosting too. But i'm using an overseas server. So that keeps my costs lower. Currently doing the web designing by myself. But i'm moving onto getting somebody to do as well. Just an idea. Ur servers are in singapore's data center or are u doing reselling?

I'm reselling from a local webhost who I know closely..

Lesser capital outlay with the same quality of support.

Still looking for a partner to do web design though..recently turned down quite a few projects because I didn't want to commit to any more projects with my hands full at the moment.

Reselling from local web host would cost ur more compared to reselling from an international one. But since u know that person, shouldnt be much of a problem. My servers are international ones. But provide around the same uplink and downlink as what u get in singapore. So page loads just as fast or about there. Just a little slower connection. But price wise, i'm able to keep it as low as possible.

Hey, perhaps we could work out a partnership or sth?

Do you have a website url that I can see? I don't believe a website hosted on an overseas server can load as fast as a local one.

Price-wise, I don't price myself as low as my competition and my customers are willing to pay because they know they can get me anytime.

Perhaps not as fast. But the storage space i'm able to provide much more compared to one that's hosted in singapore. But i'm considering doing colocation at a singapore data center when my client base gets more. Cause colocation will still cost pretty much. www.amiricservices.com

Web space is cheap. Especially when overselling is done. Just that it's not my practice to oversell web space. My clients get every mb they pay for. As for speed, local hosting is definitely faster than overseas hosting. If your clients are more focused on pricing instead of speed, then you don't need to do local web hosting.

Either way, I don't think you need co-location yet if you don't have a strong client base who needs local webhosting. If you wish, I can let you in on an affiliate program that I am planning at the moment.

If i do colocation, i'll have loads more to manage. Currently for now. Its still pretty simple to manage. Er, my server load is only 0.16 currently. So actually i'm still far from over selling. Once it hits 0.8. I'll change to another server. And wadever storage they are promised, they will get it.

Hmm, anyway, u do ur web designing by urself?

Basic ones, yet. I'm more of a developer. I always believed that if a project requires web design, I'll rope in a designer because there's no way a developer is better at designs than a designer and vice versa.
