Default Buddhism & Christian really cannot be together?

I'm a buddhist & my gf is a christian, we like each other a lot. We worry that we mght not be together becoz of different beliefs.

She is ok not converting me, but she wants a church wedding which i'm ok. She is worried about the kids in future being expose to 2 sides of the religion will make them confuse. I don't mind going to church with her on sunday. But overall she will be very happy if i get converted.

I really love her and i can't bear to leave her just becoz of the religion issue. I'm a non-practicing buddhist but i'm very particular in the aspect of filial piety as i must do what a son must do in terms of paying respect to ancestors which is a strong chinese tradition. If i get converted can i still follow my chinese tradition in paying respects to my ancestors?

Is there such a thing called dual religion in singapore? meaning one person can have 2 religion? Cos i feel that there is only 1 god, just in different forms to different cultures and races.

In Singapore there is multi-racial harmony, why is there no multi-religion harmony?

Hi all guys & gals, married or unmarried, i need your personal experiences if you & your partner are different in religion as in buddhism/taoism and christian, how you are handle this issue?... thanks!

Depending on how strict are her family as christians. Some christians will only marry their spouse if they are converted. Else its a no-no. The chinese tradition part is somewhat grey. Some christians are ok with joss stick offerings during special occasions, but some are not. Filial piety is practised everywhere.

All posts made are of subjective nature by default, unless explicitly mentioned. I am afterall still human.

hmmm , is her whole family christian or she is the only one ?
definitely she hopes to see u converted . because as christian . we shldnt have non chiristian relationship (meaning our partner cannot be non christian ) .

since u are stucked in the middle . why nt u try ? as in try goin to church and see how u feel about christianity and stuffs , if u think its alright u can get convert also . but does ur parents mind if u convert ?
but of course , if u dun wan im sure its alright with her .

I will never hold a joss stick. And I doubt your girlfriend will. If she's very particular about religion, she'll most probably think that worshiping ancestor is bullshit. Cause of teachings in the bible.

Since you believe in one God, converting to a Christian may be a good move. Buddhist worship many different gods, isn't it?

gotta depend on the girl... if she has a strict family, then you guys might face some problems.

for me... i wont even bother.if it so happens that my spouse's religion is different from mine, i will expect him to follow my religion. if he objects then fine la dont marry le lor. just stay together but then no status. i dont mind and it doesnt matter alot to me oso.

as for the kids... i'll leave it to them to decide for themselves when they are old enough to think for themselves. but so long as they are still young, i will bring them to temple to pray etc.

waa... dont mean anything mean but then you like that say might offend those who are non christians orh... hope you understand that maybe whatever we pray may be bullshits to you but then they mean alot to us non christians. and from what i've learnt in my previous church, i was thought to respect other religions and and not calling their gods 'bullshits' :devil2:

I don't think it will really affect you & ur gf relationship if both of you can understand about having different religion. Unless either sides parents go against it. Try to convince them if they really mind.
Regarding, your future kids. would it be great if they respect both religions?

that's for the catcholic.
but only if pay respect to personal family side, be it relative or own family, other than that's a no-no.
all my christians friends ain;t allow to offer joss stick no matter for whatever reason.

as for TS. you two can stay in your own belief.

as for your kids? it's better you let them choose which belief that they personally wants when they grow up.
choosing or settling by parents this isn't a really good idea.

look at this way?
if your son or daughter were in same belief with you but they doesn't have the fell same as you?
would that be a good choice?

for some cases, some parents of my friends were angry with them due to their differ belief when they're grew up now,,,
and of cause when they're young they were to "stay" belief with buddhism.

and another case is that sometime by changing belief, can make one feels guilty at times.
