A boy was riding the escalator from the third to the fourth floor of a shopping centre when he tumbled over the handrail ?falling about 10 feet onto another escalator, then landing on the first floor.
Miraculously, 10-year-old Umar Khidhir walked away from the mishap with just bruises and minor scratches.

The student from Juying Primary was making his way to his parents' bridal shop at the fourth level of Bukit Timah Shopping Centre by himself when the accident happened around 4.30pm yesterday.

The Primary Four student claimed that a boy whom he had never seen before had knocked into him from behind.

"I don't know how it could have happened. I blanked out when the security guard called me to say my son had fallen down," said Umar's father Zulkiflee Kemat, 42.

"I rushed down immediately and saw him lying on the floor next to the escalator."

Describing Umar as a "hyperactive" child who only "falls down during soccer", Mr Zulkiflee said the boy and his three siblings would hang around the shopping centre at least twice a week. All of them know the place very well.

His mother, Madam Fazilah Abdul Aziz, 38, said she usually keeps a close watch on the four, but the couple had been busy talking to a client at that time.

When Today visited Umar at the National University Hospital, he could walk but was reluctant to talk. Said Mr Zulkiflee: "He must have fallen at least 10 feet."

Umar's parents were initially worried that he might have sustained internal injuries, but the boy's X-ray results have put him in the clear.

"I think maybe we'll move our shop from the fourth to first level. That way, they won't need to take the escalator anymore," Mr Zulkiflee said.

Police are investigating. - /sh

Glad to see the kid's all right. What must have gone through his head as he fell down from that height. Wont see him taking the escalator again for a loong loong time I believe.

anyway no one to blame really... probably just another accident. cuz the the victim in this case didnt even know the boy who pushed him.
