Default Bowling Lane Condition..To change ball or shift board?

Do u agreed that bowlers during league game must know how to read lane conditions accurately? It is a must? Or switch to another ball to combat the conditions? So to master reading lane condition or to change to the "Right" ball to suite lane condition? I guess everyone will have their set of answers...what's your preference?

I start with my preference..i will go for change ball to suit lane condition~

I feel it is very difficult to read the lane jus to see how my ball roll, someone had advise me a good way to start is to put a white cross tape on the positive axis point of my ball, then when i release my ball, observe the way this white cross moves..so now i am still observing...

I'll do adjusting 1st and see if the ball(for oily lane) will work anot. But sometimes the condition can be too dry, I'll change the ball instead and then do the adjusting again.

I can't change my first ball, so the only thing i can do is to change the angle, the pressure of my grip or the release of my ball and if possible i will change my boards depending on how oily the lane condition is.

if you are interested in bowling in leagues for longer periods of time i tink it would be best not to be changing ur ball but rather jus shifting your targets.. i cant say that changin the ball would not help, but it would make ur game less consistent as there would be many times where u find that all your balls seem to be "unsuited" for the lanes. i do agree that occasionally one ball is betta then the other, but shifting ur targets and making adjustments is still much more useful and reliable as compared to changing ball. for the comment earlier on changin of release, i would generally not recommend that as the changes in releases now and then would cause much inconsistency in the way u would like to throw your "first ball". generally the rule of thumb is that if you miss left of the pocket, make adjustments to the left, and vice versa for if you miss right of the pocket.

take care u dont bowl a perfect game when u put white tape cos the ball would be illegal and u wont get any award for that

oe of the ways is to see how your thumb hole moves,or finger inserts roll.but that take time and experience.
being able to see the ball react is one thing, but being able to read how the lane is tru the way the ball moves is another thing, must know how your ball is drilled as well, whether its for long skid or for early roll or anything else would affect your judgement when it comes to judging from how the lane is.(but thats besides the point here)

going back to the subject u posted,hhmmm....change balls, are u sure your balls are drilled the same way?just that different coverstock to counter diff lane conditions?
or are your balls drilled differently?if drilled differently, which ball would u use as a gauge ?we call this the bench mark ball, cos from this ball we are able to make ball change accodringly

changing lines would be the more feasible way cos its the same ball but change diff lines only

changing release, unless u are very good in your bowling if not its not advisable as it will ressult in inconsistency

for me,i use a combination of 3 ways.but when i m feeling lazy i just change ball cos thats the easiest thing to do(normally when i bowl i bring 3strike balls and 1 spare or soemtimes 4 strike balls with no spare balls) just remain same line and fit the right ball into the line only.

when i train i use 1 ball and play diff lines to get the ball into the pocket.
and thats to train acuracy and consistency

mani thanks for your advise...my changing ball here mean... i got 3 main balls with different drilling to suit the lane condition..

Usually b4 league after the technician had oil the lane, i will begin by testing the lane condition, i will start with my "medium" ball and observe, if it is able to follow the path that i wanted, i will use that ball thru all games~

Of course, when oil will start to move down and lane dry and i see my ball hook too early, i will shift board, but if i still dun feel comfortable, i will change to my "mild" ball~

Quite similar here. Yesterday just got a ball from my friend and drilled to the specs I wanted. After couple of game, the lane dried up and my starting ball still keep going too high after I've shifted around 5 board to the left. My starting position normaly board 30 and thus 5 board to the left is already alot to me. So I changed to the ball that I just got and goes back to my normal starting board. It still hooks but suddenly the pocket too low and keep getting those 2-10 splits. Think I'm going to use that when the lane is really too dry or otherwise need to shift couple of board to the right.
