Default Bintan Resorts - Avoid going....

It was like 6 or 7 years since my husband and me last went to Bintan Resorts so this year we decided to spend our wedding anniversary there. We could only get accomodations at the Bintan Lagoon Resort as we made last minute bookings and what with the school holidays, the other cheaper resorts were fully booked.

We got the shock of our lives when we saw that ALL the prices quoted in the restaurants, shops and bookings of taxis are in Singapore Dollars! Worst! All the prices are so much MORE expensive than in Singapore! Piangz! :disgust2:

When we went to this place called Pasar Oleh Oleh, we thought we could get some good buys like we did years ago...but we got our 2nd shock...everything was AGAIN priced in Sg $ and wah liao...more expensive! Can u imagine a cheap looking made in Indonesia T-shirt priced at S$35? Siao right? :notimpressed2: :notimpressed2:

It's not as if the island had a major revamping or what...All the resorts still look the same from the website and no new roads or shopping malls have been built...

The island is lovely in the sense it is still so untouched by progress but the COSTS of dining and shopping there is a MAJOR TURN-OFF man! :disgust2:
Whoever the idiots are in thinking they can rip off Singaporeans need their heads examined at Woodbridge Hospital....

Can u imagine even an ang mor can tell the shop girl at the ferry terminal that the Mars there costs more than in Singapore?

Sorry guys...Bintan is no longer the Indonesian island I used to know. It has become more like a 'rip Singaporeans' island.....

So sad man.......:cry3:

It is not the place, nor the condition, but the mind alone that can make anyone happy or miserable.

Mamaros, if i'm not wrong, the resort that you went to is run by a Singaporean.
I heard rumours that in fact the island is almost totally run by Singaporeans now.. don't know how true is that..

Bintan Resorts is run by a Singaporean consortium. And yes, ALL the resorts there charge SGD and are expensive. Afterall, the resorts serve Singaporeans exclusively, hence I am not surprised that the prices are what they are now. But there are other places in Bintan that are cheaper. You just have to get out of the resorts. You could take the Ferry from Tanah Merah to Tanjong Pinang and take a cab to the resorts in the east of the island. These resorts are run by Indonesians and serve mainly backpackers, so things are still pretty cheap. Of course, you will have to lower the expectations in terms of comfort and fine dining.....

i was at angsana resort and spa & all prices were quoted in USD!! it's actually cheaper to go with konsortium. i booked on my own cos it was so last min.. i booked jus 1 day before i departed, so e room alone cost me US$168 !!

the ferry ticket was abt S$50 per person. food there at e resort was fantastic, but each meal for 2 pax can go up to US$50. haha.

better book with konsortium in advance to avoid paying so much!

I think too many singaporeans go there for holidays and not forgetting other foreigners as well. When I went to bayan tree bintan, everything was in US$. I would go there for massages and spa. The place is nice for relaxation and we really can't expect prices to be as cheap as before.
