Re: Beijing Trip in June Typing this from my hotel room at the Kuntai, around 2nd Ring Road area, I'm living around the Chao Yang Men Wai district area so I didn't exactly venture out further.
Places I went to so far:
朝外岳秀 - Fashion Place, good for clothes and DVDs, have to bargain
朝外雅秀 - Fashion Place, good for clothes, have to bargain but quality not as good as 岳秀...
朝外门 - Wholesale centre, things are very cheap here
秀水街 - Place for clothes, watches, and anything that you can find pirated, have to bargain or get ripped off.
百脑汇 - Beijing's Sim Lim Square, very expensive, but very high-tech
后海 - Nice place for bars & pubs, bargain for beer, look out for this pub called Huxley's, can get really cheap beer.
王府井 - Beijing's equivilent to Orchard Road, really expensive, but check out the Olympics store there, quite nice place to look for souvenirs. There's a dark alley that sells exotic food.
酒吧街 - Need I explain more on this?
Food wise, don't eat at the roadside stores, or you'll have to hug the toilet bowl for the next few days. The restaurants are alright, but take note that in Beijing, they dun use spices. All flavour of the food comes from the massive amounts of oil and salt they use. Food is so much saltier and oilier than Singapore. You'll most probably end up crapping oil if you're not used to it.
