Bed bugs landed Chinese national in jail
By Elena Chong
A CHINESE national who was bitten by bed bugs blamed his room-mate's bug-infested luggage bag hanging on the double-decker bed.
Jiang Xiao Lei, 24, was sleeping on the upper deck when he woke up at about 5am on Oct 31, complaining loudly that he had been bitten by bugs.
He claimed that canteen assistant Lin Han's luggage was the source of it.
During an argument, Jiang jumped out of bed and punched Lin, 37, on the chest.
Later, when Mr Lin said he would call the police, Jiang threatened to stab him with a 35cm-long knife.
Mr Lin later left the People's Park Centre apartment and called the police.
On Wednesday, Jiang was jailed for three weeks for criminal intimidation.
Pleading for leniency, Jiang, whose sentence was backdated to Nov 1, said he uttered the threat as he was provoked by the victim's bad attitude.
