Battle to reduce dengue threat continues with Operation HOMES SINGAPORE: Homes found breeding the Aedes mosquito are on the rise - there were 84 per cent more homes breeding mosquitoes in March than in February.
Even more worrying - the number of mosquito larvae found in these homes is also on the rise.
Given these danger symptoms and the bout of wet weather recently, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC Josephine Teo is leading the charge to fight the dengue threat in her constituency, with Operation HOMES - or the Household Mosquito Eradication System.
Together with volunteers from the Toa Payoh East Grassroots Organisation, she plans to visit some 5,500 homes and alert residents to the dengue threat.
They will be urged to check for mosquito breeding in their homes, especially at all the regular hotspots.
These are not, however, the only things being done to fight the dengue problem.
"What we have also done in Toa Payoh East Estate is convey the information to residents through a countdown banner. Now this countdown banner is quite interesting - basically it helps residents within a certain precinct keep track of how many days we have been free of dengue," says Ms Teo. - CNA/yy |
