hey all i will be gg on a trip to bangkok next mth.. any things i need to look out for? or any good phase i can use over there?? hope to get some advice and items to buy from there

There are lots of stuff there to see, do and eat....

just beware of the tuk tuks, some may try to rip you off... they often drive you to some other location and ask you to buy stuff first while waiting for the tourist sights to open... more often than not, the place is already open.

For taxis, make sure they are operating by meters before you get in

taxi drivers will con you on the fares. beware. unless u are a thai, if not they will overcharge you.

You have to make sure that the driver switch on his meter. If he refused, just insist that you want to alight.

Ratchada City Hotel at Hway Khwang is good and cheap. It is a 3 stars hotel and is within 10 mins walk from Hway Khwang subway. It is located at central BKK. The rate there is 900 baht for a normal room and 1000 baht for a deluxe room.

If you are looking for bargains, you can take the Subway to Suhumvit (alight at Suhumvit station) and walk along the Soi there. Soi Cowboy is located at this area. Soi Cowboy is a stretch of pubs which features pole dancing and stripe tease shows.

You can also take the subway to Papong, alight at Silom station and walk there. Papong is like a tourist pasar malam where you can find alot of immitation goods like wallets, bags, watches, you name it they have it. Do ask a few stalls before you make any purchase. Go to the stall that quote you the cheapest and slash the offer price by 30-50%
Remember, this is a tourist area, they will qoute you high prices for everything.

From Ratchada City Hotel, you can also walk along Huay Khwang area in the night (after 9pm) there will be stalls and their price are reasonable.

you can also walk to Poseidon from your hotel, it is about 15 mins walk.

The hotel is also near to Hollywood and Dance Fever, These 2 discos are popular with the local people.

You will also find good and cheap food around Ratchada area.

Its better to change $ in SG. The rate in BKK is 22.4 to 22.45. You can get 22.5 at Golden Mile.

For your info, 12 April to 15 April is Thai's new year. It is a time where strangers will get splash with water by just any body. The splashing is meant to wash away all your bad luck and sins for the last year.

At Papong, I was quoted 1200 baht for a leather belt and 600 baht for a single polo shirt.

After bargaining for awhile, I got the belt for 200 baht and 2 polo shirts for 500 baht. So remember to bargain.

You do not need to learn a few simple Thai phrases, they will still know that you are a tourist. So remember to slash at least 40 to 70% of their offer price, offer them what you think is reasonable.

1000 baht is about $44.44 now. 100 baht is $4.44, etc....this way you can roughly gauge the price.

me and my frens 4 of us are going tgt and thinking of sharing room to lower cost.. will note it down thanks.~

Traditional Thai Massage can be found along most roads. 1 hour is about 250 baht. Oil Massage will cost slightly more. There is not hanky panky here.

You should avoid MP like Posiedon, etc if you don't want any hanky panky.

I would still recommend you to stay in Ratchada City Hotel, twin bed is 900 baht only less than SG$40 per day, it is near subway and airport is 40 mins away that is excluding traffic jams.

If you like bargain shopping, you should visit Papong for its pasar malam and do remember to bargain big time!

Make sure that the taxi driver use the meter. Do not flash your cash around.

Just in case....there is a Police Station in Huay Khwang which is near to the hotel.
