Parents of 1-year-old girl say their daughter's hand is weak, they claim doctor mishandled delivery

The parents of the baby girl, born in June last year, claimed that a doctor had mishandled their daughter during delivery.
As a result, the child has a permanent physical defect, said the couple from Johor Bahru.
According to them, their child was forcibly tugged out by a doctor at the General Hospital in Johor Bahru after her right shoulder and hand got stuck in her mother's birth canal.
That, claimed her parents, led her to sustain injures in both her right hand and shoulder.
Now she's unable to do simple tasks like raising her right shoulder or holding objects using her right hand.
Apparently the hospital had told the father, a 35-year-old factory worker, and the toddler's mother, 38, that she would soon recover the use of her hand.
But a year has passed and nothing has changed, they said.
Her father hopes something can be done now.
Recounting the incident, the father said his wife was attended by five nurses when she went into labour.
The housewife told Guang Ming Daily that she had requested for a caesarean operation as she was in a lot of pain.
But her pleas fell on deaf ears.
It was only when the baby's head was out of the birth canal, that the nurses realised that she was unable to fully emerge because her right side was stuck inside the birth canal.
A male doctor came in to help.
The doctor tugged on the 4.73 kg baby and managed to pull her out.
The mother fainted after giving birth.
The couple, who have three other children, told China Press that they are not asking for compensation from the hospital.
They just want someone to treat their daughter's hand.
The father said he has been taking four days off every month in order to look after his daughter and taking her to see different doctors.
The hospital said the matter is being investigated and a full report will be sent to the health department.
