I have my left index finger dislocated at the 2nd joint a couple of years back. Now still 'deformed', bent and unable to bent & straighten fully.

It'll take a year or more depending where the fracture is. It's because when the tendons/tissues heal and cover the bones, it's not formed perfectly and tissue scars form. The tissues may not form long enough or restrict the joints, that's why you can't bend your finger fully.

The physiotherapist/occupational therapist will perform therapy sessions and the doctor will review if any minor surgery is required to correct the scar/tissue formation.

It is a quite hard time, don't worry, bone can rebuild and recover itself. Suggest you go to any health food shop or pharmacy to buy some supplerment that with glucosamine, calcium and mineral complex. Will help.

2nd, do massage at that fractured point to help improve blood flow on your finger also help.

Smilies and wish you recover earier.

Are you going for regular Hand Therapy? I think your doctor should refer you to regular Occupational Therapy session... Trust me, u need to go for the therapies regularly... Any stop and it would impede on your progress...

I am an occupational therapist so I know... keke... Most people find it a hassle to go back to the hospitals for their therapy sessions so end up dun recover full function of their hand... By the time they wanna do something about it, already too late liao...

i fractured my right arm when i was like 10, fell off the swings at high speed haha, had to wear that cask thingy around my arm after that. Couldnt move or use my right arm and hand for a couple of months. Hurt badly when i tried to straighten it.

Recently i sprained my right wrist playing soccer, not sure wether it was a fracture when it happened. Hurt badly and started to swell. Couldnt move or use my right hand for weeks, had to wear wrist support. Now i'm able to use my hand but i still feel the pain when carrying heavy objects.

Certainly not an enjoyable experience when you injure any part of your body, even a finger. Cant carry on your everyday routines normally and it hurts and aches -_-

yup. i fractured the last bone of my right palm few years ago. i don't know what's the name for that bone but anyway, i had to go for an operation to fix the bone. had to undergo 2 ops. one to put in the metal plate and the other one to remove it. Similarly, i could only bend my last finger halfway. what the doc told me was that i had to bend my fingers daily till i could bend it fully. took me 2 weeks after the final op before i could bend it fully. =]
