Ang Mo Kio Primary School launches Mozzie Attack SINGAPORE: With new dengue cases cropping up weekly, one primary school has launched an initiative that uses creative presentations to arm its young students against the Aedes threat.
Through a catchy rap and a skit, Ang Mo Kio Primary School students are trying to convey the Mozzie Attack message to the rest of their school mates to reduce the chances of dengue infections.
Seah Lay Tin, principal of Ang Mo Kio Primary School, said: "We need to educate our children to let them know that they have a part to play as well. They can go home and let their parents know how to wipe out mosquitoes in their homes."
Member of Parliament in the Ang Mo Kio GRC Inderjit Singh said only a concerted effort would halt the spread of the disease.
He said: "The dengue problem is already at epidemic level. We realise that about 50 percent of the problem is within the houses so we have to involve everyone and, hopefully, the children here can help us."
Sruthi Shankar, a student at Ang Mo Kio Primary School, said: "The five ways to prevent dengue is emphasised in both the skit and rap. So I think if the children go home and get their parents to do the 10-minute mozzie wipe-out every day, we should be able to stop the Aedes mosquitoes from breeding in our homes."
The Mozzie Attack initiative was organised in collaboration with the National Environment Agency and the Kebun Baru Link Residents' Committee.
