Hi CareCare,

well, number 1 ur job does s**ks alright.
but every jobs s**ks too.

my opinion is that u should stay for the moment.
at least untill a yr with them before leaving.

Reason: 1. looks better on ur resume, (1 yr exprience sounds better then any months)
2. See how the bonus things ends up.
3. Jus maybe after sticking with them for 1 yr they will finally appreciate u and things
turn better? ( jus keep praying)

Those are jus my views. If the beating that you are recieving from them is really harsh then jus leave.
Dun stress untill health got problem yah.

Default Re: aM i childish to quit this job?

Firstly, OT is under the labour law your right to claim under the employment act.

Overtime

All work in excess of the above hours of work is considered as overtime work, and the employee must be paid no less than 1.5 times his/her hourly basic rate of pay. Payment for overtime work must be made within 14 days after the last day of the salary period.

The rate of payment is not less than one and a half times the employee's hourly basic rate of pay.

For a monthly-rated employee. His hourly basic rate of pay is computed as follows:

12 * Monthly Basic Rate of Pay

52 x 44

For a daily-rated employee, his hourly basic rate of pay is computed as follows:

Daily Pay at the Basic Rate

Working Hours Per Day

For a piece-rated employee, his hourly basic rate of pay is computed as follows:

Total Weekly Pay at the Basic Rate of Pay

Total Number of Hours Worked in the Week

Based on the hourly basic rate of pay, the overtime pay for the 3 categories of employees is to be calculated as follows:

Hourly Basic Rate of Pay x 1.5 x Number of Hours of Overtime Worked

Under Part IV of the Employment Act, it is mandatory to make overtime payment to an employee if his basic salary is $1,600 or less a month, or if he is a workman (regardless of his salary level). Generally, a workman is an employee whose work involves manual labour. Some examples of workman are lorry drivers, construction workers, kitchen helpers, machine operators. The minimum rate for overtime pay is 1.5 times the hourly rate of pay. For other categories of employees, overtime pay will depend on the terms stated in their employment contract.

Maximum Hours of Overtime

An employee is permitted to work up to a limit of 72 hours of overtime in a month. However, this limit may be exceeded if the Ministry of Manpower has granted an exemption. (Download the application form for overtime exemption).

For work done on rest days or public holidays it is not included in the 72 hours' limit for overtime. However, if an employee works beyond his normal daily working hours on his rest day or public holiday, the extra hours of work done would be included in the 72 hours' limit for overtime work.

The rate of payment for an employee who works overtime on his rest day and public holiday should be paid at not less than one and a half times his hourly basic rate of pay for the overtime work (as in the case of overtime work on any other day), in addition to his rest day or public holiday pay.

Higher income comes with higher education (self education or formal education) there is no way around this.

I won't say its childish for quiting your job but before quitting, please consider where you want to go, how you want to get there. If you have totally no direction, no matter where you go, you can't go very far.

I used to think $$ is the motivation of doing something, but I realize the biggest motivation is personal satisfaction. So find out what you do best, what you love to do and find out how you can make a nice tidy income doing that. Easy? No, but its well worth the effort finding it.

Good luck!

My advice for you is, find another job while you're still working there.

I'm working in the recruitment line, and boy, is the job market BOOMING now! A lot of companies are increasing their staff's pay in order to keep them! With the economy strengthening now, and the job market at its peak, it's really the best chance for you to change your job.

A lot of companies now operate only 5 days, and judging from what you've mentioned, you are kinda underpaid. The market rate for a fresh school leaver in the admin line is $1,300.

You sound like you're a hardworking person. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have much problem getting a better-paid job.

Having said all these, it's really not easy to go for interviews when you're still working. However, I don't recommend you leave first. Be selective when it comes to job application. Apply only when you're confident of the job, study a little about the company, and you'll make it. Then should you be short-listed, see if you can arrange for the interview to be after office hours. If not, then take time-off from your current job, or just take MC! Hehehe....

sounds like a really sucky job.... check out jobsdb.com.sg etc and look out for any good jobs. Have you thought of going into the service industry? It was on the papers that the service industry is having a severe shortage of manpower.
