Total SGC$: 93.50 | After poly, what do u pursue? HiyEe everyone,
After poly, what do u want to study?
I've been bugged by this uncertainty for a yr plus. To avoid working life, i've been in and out of jobs. End up going back to my part time banquet waitressing (which i did during poly days) most of the time... But this job make me feel the satisfaction of able to interact with my guest. Therefore, it came to me tht 'Shld i pursue my degree in tourism & hospitality?' However, the cons made me feel like giving up this course. I truly understand there's pros and cons for every course/field u're going into.
I've consulted a few frens...Some said 'Go for it!'...Some said 'A biz degree will be a better choice'....
Anyone has a few cents worth of advice? Its much appreciated for ppl who is in the same dilemma as me...
P.S I came frm Civil Engg backgrd but doesnt want to pursue in tht field. |

After poly, one should be able to know what he/she wants in life.
If one was doing Civil Engineering in poly and enjoy it, she should continue to pursue in this field - maybe aiming higher like, a degree?
But if one did not, then she should, of course, do something she likes.
Since you know what you want, Tourism & Hospitality, go for it!
What is the 'con' here?
It is another + that you have been working in this industry since your poly days, so I'm sure you know what you want. It's good to work in a certain industry to 'test' your passion in that particular field before setting off for a degree or something.
Your friends' advices might not be the 'best'. A business degree might be for them but might not be for you. And what is 'better'? I think there is no one field/industry better than the other. It's ok to listen for opinions but at the end of the day you are the one who know yourself best, right? Because there are people who just listen to friends and get into a course yet don't know what he/she wants to do... I know some.
Hmm.. It doesn't matter if your background is different from what your gonna pursue. What matters most is you're happy in doing what you want. |

I would most likely end up working in the Games industry. Else I might just further study on the field or just do something completely unrelated... like Psychology. But most likely, doing something related else I would be wasting my 3 years here =w= To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

A degree would really help if you are aiming for higher jobs, and if you cannot afford one, working first would be a good option since you don't have 2 years of NS. LoneReaction

You may want to think board and look far when switching to anything. Look at other stories and prospects, think and reflect, then make your decision.
Do remember to think where and what kind of environment do you want to work in. There are so many positions which you can interact with people.
Sometimes it is best not to be brainwashed by educational institutions or newspapers that paint a damn rosy picture. For example, the bio science industry and stuff, I have not been hearing anything since. Many think that course will lead to heaven but in the end, the road is tougher than they thought and they give up.
Remember going to school is like learning and experiencing, which is quicker than those who didn't get in. Hopefully the school you are looking for has hands-on lessons, with your experiences in previous jobs, you can try improving on your skills.
Pursue what you want, but persistence and determination will take you to your goal. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |
