Book 8 undergrads to embark on 25-day cycling expedition to Alaska

8 undergrads to embark on 25-day cycling expedition to Alaska
Posted: 22 June 2008 1624 hrs

SINGAPORE: Eight students from the Singapore Management University (SMU) plan to cycle 2,000 kilometres in 25 days to Alaska.

The undergraduates have been training hard since January. Besides Mount Faber, they've even made cycling trips to Desaru and Kota Bahru in Malaysia.

The group had previously held cycling expeditions in Nepal and France and their next destination is Alaska.

James Ng, team leader, Zero Limits to Alaska, said: "I chose Alaska because it's a very uncharted place where people seldom go, not only for holidays, let alone on cycling expeditions."

Katherine Kee, team member, Zero Limits to Alaska, said: "One of the biggest challenges would be the weather which is something that we cannot replicate in Singapore. Second, would probably be the wildlife because we read about bear attacks."

The students are well aware that they need to get themselves prepared.

Lesley Fu, another team member, said: "I actually only picked up road biking six months ago. So, one of the greatest challenges for me would be the physical challenge."

But most are looking forward to enjoying one other's company during the trip.

The team will leave Singapore on July 7 and will return on August 13. - CNA/vm
