Default 8 more schools to be upgraded in three years under PRIME

SINGAPORE: Eight more schools are to be upgraded from 2009 to 2011 under the Programme for Rebuilding and Improving Existing Schools (PRIME).

They are Dazhong Primary, Guangyang Primary, St Anthony's Cannossian Primary, Chanung Cheng High, Jurongville Secondary, Juying Secondary, Montfort Secondary and St Anthony's Canossian Secondary.

Initiated in May 1999, PRIME aims to improve schools standards by fitting more classrooms with new or upgraded facilities and providing a conducive learning environment for the students.

Schools under PRIME will also gain from the Flexible School Infrastructure (FlexSI) programme, which aims to provide schools with an indoor sports hall.

PRIME is estimated to cost $4.5 billion and 243 schools have been included in this scheme. Out of these 243 schools, 207 have completed their upgrading. - CNA/vm
