Senior Representative Vincent Choy, 35, was shocked that his plate of nasi padang from the United Square foodcourt cost him a total of $8 for rice, two items and one vegetable.
He told STOMP that he bought this yesterday (Mar 3) from stall number five at the foodcourt which is across from Novena Square, near Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
"I was charged $8 for a plate of briyani yellow rice, mussels, cuttlefish and brinjal!
"The price really took me by surprise and I was upset. I told the staff sarcastically, 'Wow, luckily I asked for a half serving of rice!'
"When I asked for a breakdown of the cost, I was told that the rice alone cost me $3 because it is from the a la carte menu and not the set menu which only gives white rice.
"The mussels and cuttlefish were charged at $2 for each item and the brinjal was charged at $1. 
"I just can't believe that a plate of nasi padang at a foodcourt can be so expensive!

I think nowadays, eating @ food court costs quite a far bit...
I had a colleague who went to order mixed veggies rice, turns out to be 5 bucks!!!
she had only 1 meat (sotong i think), 2 veggies n rice... and it's 5 bucks... too expensive i say...
everything costs so expensive now...

nowadays food court food are what u called either no taste or ....and the prices goodness ....1 of the few cheaper food courts and have a few good foodstalls like beef noddles, famous rojak where u need to take queue number, nasi pandang , laksa all cost from $2:30 to $4 and its great. Below hub hub the food court ext to mc donalds | |

it is at foodcourt.....but novena area is famous for expats right? i think it is the upscale part of town?
well, i never buy nasi padang from food court anyway...it's always extremely expensive

I think he is ordering something out of the ordinary as stated he had ordered a lar carte instead of set menu. I am sure that nasi bryani set is either chicken or mutton and since he did not prefer that then the add ups here are justifiable. As mentioned, he should have chose to stick to set menu. Everybody says cooking at home is cheaper, but what they don't realize that the price of all the foodstocks is expensive and one meal for 2 or 3 will deplete a quarter of your food products. | |
