SINGAPORE: A survey has shown that 53 per cent of former Institute of Technical Education (ITE) students have upgraded or are upgrading to higher qualifications within five to 10 years upon completion of their course.


Nearly two—thirds attained diploma qualifications.

The proportion of these students is the highest among former Science and Technology (S&T) students where 82 per cent had gone on to pursue S&T courses.

The study which was conducted in 2007 by the Education and Manpower ministries, was to see the educational upgrading trends among former ITE students.

Those who were surveyed said the upgrading not only helped them enhance their career progress and prospects but it also improved their skills, productivity and salaries.

For example, students with the National ITE Certificate (NITEC) who upgraded themselves, enjoyed wage premiums of about 12 per cent compared to their peers who did not pursue further.

As a result of the upgrading, the proportion of degree—holders has also increased to 43 per cent per cohort. —CNA/vm

however out of this 53% only close to half make it to our local polys..mst have private dips instead..

You have to factor it the number of people applying into polys as the reason for this. Not enough space for them in the local polys, so no choice, have to take pte dip.
