Better Studying Tips

Hope you can make your studying more effective and efficient? Here are some useful tips that might make your late nights a little more bearable.

Make the study sessions short but frequent

Did you ever wonder why you cannot concentrate on your studies for a long period of time? Do not consider yourself responsible for this. Recent scientific studies have proved that it is better to distribute your learning. Just study for ten minutes. After that, take a break and come back again to study for another ten minutes. These small bursts of concentration seemed to be better than a long consecutive session which causes stress, tiredness and distraction (Not a suitable state of mind to learn new things). The period when you take some rest, the brain recharges and recovers with some sort of protein synthesis. Though this system has not been acknowledged by teachers, it is indeed a powerful tool of learning.

Do not feel condemned, celebrate your days of rest

Almost a same principle, like the one mentioned above. But, this is applicable to a longer time cycle. You can certainly take a day off following a tough week for relaxation. It helps to refresh your mind and wipe away any kind of stress. But, if you just go on to think about your studies and account yourself guilty for not studying, more stress will come back. This is not good for you as stressed brain cannot digest new data.

Adhere to your emotional state

If you do not feel like studying, just do not. It is nothing but wastage of your precious time to force yourself to study. If you are stressed or fatigued, then does not matter how hard you try, but your brain will just push back the data. But, if you are relieved, you do not have to try hard. Your brain will work just like a sponge and take any data you want.

Revise your lessons the very same day you learned

Try to go through your lessons the same day again on which you actually learned them. This revision method cements the information in your mind. If you go through the same lesson a few days later without the day’s revision, you will notice that you cannot recall some portions.

Follow the natural learning sequence

When you were a little kid in the nursery, you used to perform songs with your whole arm. A bit later when you were in kindergarten, you could manage your drawings with help of a hand. During your first grade, you were able to hold pencils in your fingers. If you observe this natural learning sequence, you will discover that we learn things by starting with large things and respectively we move to smaller things. No matter how much we grow, this cycle remains effective. So, when you study, try to get a broad picture of the subject at first, later go through the small details.

Exaggerate yourself

Did you ever notice that a batsman in a baseball game swings his bat several times? The athletes also move their legs a few times just before the race. They exaggerate themselves so that the result is achieved easily. This approach is particularly useful for correcting your spelling. Pronounce the word “naive” as “nayivy”. This exaggeration of sound of this letter makes sure you spell the word right.

Create the perfect environment for your study

Sometimes, a specific environment helps you to concentrate on your studies. For some, it is essential to have the musics while studying. Some prefer silence. For some, proper fooding is a necessity while studying. Only you can detect the particular atmosphere you are acquainted with and whenever you start studying, try to create the same environment which is suitable for you.

Your brain can fade, just cope up with it

Are you a person with photographic memory? Generally such persons are rare. So, chances are unlikely that you are one of them and thus your brain also tends to forget things. Do not get mad when you just do not recall something you read previously. The more you learn, more information is deposited in your brain in form of layers. So, when you put in relatively newer information, it is natural to forget things you learned in past. Instead of frightening, you just need to check lessons after every two or three sessions. Sometimes, you need to go through the collective topic for remembering it perfectly. Sometimes, only a prompt overview is enough.

Maintain a routine

Do not ever just “fit in” yourself to study. This will sometimes leave you with no time to study. It is better to schedule your study properly. Is there any specific time in the day when you start studying everyday? If there is, it is your routine. Try to adhere to it and you can even note it down in your notebook. Just like an appointment to your doctor. Thus you will never miss your routine.

Your goal should be practicable

A many people find it hard to reach their goal. It is not because they did not try hard, it is because they did not have a reasonable goal for themselves. We often set high goals for us, something that is unreachable. So, the inevitable happens and we fail to achieve it. You are not prohibited to dream big in your life. But, that should be your long term goal. You can reach there only by completing some of your short term goals which are based on your daily activity.

Do not get frustrated

There are two common types of approach among students. One of them are those who learn fast. They have a prompt nervous system and thus they are able to complete lessons in a short period of time. But, these students are self critical. They always believe they are not learning fast enough and thus they develop frustration. The other type learns slower in comparison. But, they do not allow frustration to grow in their mind. Thus, they end learning a study material in a shorter period of time. They go slow, but that are not blocked on their way.
