Forever Jeans – trend for school, work and play

Wear “jeggings” this season, says celebrated local fashion stylist Trey Wong, explaining that this is the latest trend of wearing skinny jeans as if it feels like wearing a snugly pair of leggings.

The humble pair of jeans has come a long way indeed. Originally designed for work, these trousers in denim material first became a hit with young people in the 1950s, and the rest, they say, is history.

Today, jeans are a highly popular form of wear around the world, not only setting clothes trends for play, but for school and work as well.
Trey shares the two key trends in jeans this season.

Jean-leggings/Jeggings

I reckon every fashionista has a pair of skinny jeans in their wardrobe. Trey said that this season, skinny jeans have morphed into something even tighter than before!

“These jeans-leggings, more popularly labelled as “jeggings” (“jeans” and “leggings” put together), are usually made of stretchy material and are worn like a pair of leggings to give a nicer and snugger fit around your derrière and legs, hence the name jeans-leggings.”

Many of these jeggings also come with detailing that is characteristic of their jeans predecessors, such as pockets at the sides.

 Ankle-length jeans
Spring/summer 2010 will also see a trend in pants length that ends just above the ankle, according to Trey.

He said, “Whether it is a pair of skinny jeans or jeans in a loose-fit style, they are all rolled up to that length. This is not hard to achieve with your existing stable of denims – just sniff out your favourite pair and it gets updated instantly.”

The Levi’s Modern Vintage Collection would be a choice for young fashionistas with a budget of under $200. This new collection features premium rustic fabrics and vintage finishing techniques presented as modern jeans. The collection and campaign were recently introduced Singapore stores since January, and are retailing between $169.90 to $189.90.

Buying a pair of well-fitted jeans is nearly like finding a husband or wife. It has to be the right fabric, cut, style, wash, and occasion, and most importantly, the right fit.

Trey Wong recommends labels such as True Religion, Gstar, Levi’s, Levi Strauss Signature® jeans, Topshop, Topman, Guess, Miss Sixty, Dr Denim and Seven For All Mankind from his must-shop list.

Trey also shares the tip that since not everyone is blessed with a model’s figure; each and every individual has a unique and different body shape, it is important to find a pair of jeans that enhances your silhouette and hides your flaws.

He cautioned, “Getting the right-fitting pair of jeans that suits your own body shape beats looking trendy in an ill-fitted pair that does not flatter your body. ”
