In life there are things that we believe to be true simply because they are repeated on a regular basis. This is considered an old trick that has been used by advertisers, politicians, marketers, and many others for years but still most of us fall for it. This approach is also widely used in the weight loss and diet industry to sell products and services.

He believes that the marketing strategy of the companies involved is to offer miracle cures and promises that seduce people into making a purchase. Wilbert also believes that consumers should do what they can to learn more about the product and services being offered by using sources that are reputable and reliable.

To begin the process, here are 10 weight loss myths revealed.

1. Shed 30 lbs in four weeks. Any system or program that promises that you can lose massive amounts of weight in such a short period of time is not healthy. Losing weight permanently will require a change in lifestyle. Quick fixes do not work over the long run.

2. Fat is not good. Many dietitians over the years have claimed this to be true but it has been found that some fats are good and others are bad for you remaining healthy.

3. Carbs are bad. This is another trend that is so broad that it requires clarity. Some carbs are unhealthy when you are trying to lose weight including white sugar. Others, such as complex carbs, are healthy including whole grains will provide the body with needed fiber, vitamins, and help with digestion.

4. Starving to lose weight. Staving leads to the body not getting the necessary nutrients it requires to function optimally and can bring about serious illnesses. Also by not eating you will likely be losing muscle mass instead of fat. You are also likely to regain the weight once you start eating again.

5. Stop eating after 6 pm. The time of the day you eat does not matter. What matters is what you eat, according to Shari Lieberman, author of “Dare to Lose”.

6. It’s healthy to eat at salad bars. Eating at salad bars will require as much though and attention as if you were eating at a fast food restaurant. You also need to be careful with the dressings at these bars.

7. Diet soda helps you to lose weight. At present no study will support the notion that diet soda assists in weight loss.

8. Stay away from the scale. This misconception does not hold any water and makes no sense. You need to check your weight regularly in order to keep track of your progress so that any necessary changes in your diet can be done. It is also important to stay abreast of your hip, stomach, and thigh inches.

9. A pill will make you lose weight. There is nothing that can take the place of exercising an eating healthy, not even a pill. Many of them will have serious side effects.

10. You must join a gym. Research has found that up to an hour of moderate physical activity each day aids in balancing food intake. Exercise need not be strenuousand all you need is to get your body moving.
