This exhibition focuses on black and white paintings by two Chinese artists Qi Hong and Wang Shao Xuan. The idea of this exhibition Simply Black and White came from the idea of expressing the black tones against the light coloured paper, to achieve the simplicity of beauty by just using minimal colour tones, reducing reality to a two-coloured world. Black and White Series consist of a series of semi-abstract Chinese ink horses painted by Qi Hong and another series of abstract lotus along the scenery of ponds painted by Wang Shao Xuan. (more...)
Mosaic: Hiromi – The Trio Project Ft. Anthony Jackson & Steve Smith
Japanese pianist-composer Hiromi Uehara will be returning to the Esplanade with the Trio Project this May! The talented musician, who has made two other appearances in Mosaic during 2006, caught the attention of jazz legends Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal and Chick Corea when she was just 17. Right after being spotted by Chick Corea at Yamaha School of Music, she was invited to play with him on stage at the Tokyo Jazz Festival concert the very next day.
Joining her will be Anthony Jackson on bass and Steve Smith on drums. (more...)
