National Day Parade@Marina Bay to celebrate the S'pore Spirit
THIS year's National Day Parade (NDP), to be held for the second year at the Marina Bay, will celebrate the Singapore Spirit.
It promises to enthral and dazzle spectators with a visually stunning, emotionally engaging, and 'uniquely Singaporean experience,' said the organisers on Wednesday when it unveiled details of the show.
Explaining the theme for the 2008 NDP, the organisers said in a statement: 'The Singapore Spirit has stitched our social fabric in harmony, united us in adversity and propelled us towards excellence since our independence.
'It is the Singapore Spirit that will continue to shape our resilience, strengthen our cohesiveness and nurture our creativity to forge ahead as One People and Nation, and continue our journey towards a better Home for All and a Global city of Possibilities.'
Marina Bay is picked as the venue because of the 'scenic city landscape, multi-dimensional space and vibrant environment to provide the creative space.'
Key highlights will include a six-minute aerial display by the RSAF Black Knights, a three-tiered stage design that will bring the show and action closer to the spectators and a three-dimensional parade layout.
To create the 3-D effect, the traditional parade will be given a fresh twist with an appropriate dress mix and colour differentiation.
The Guard of Honour contingents will parade on the promenade, while the supporting groups will take the stage set on the floating platform on separate tiers.
There will also be a Singapore Cheer and mass games in the lead-up to the parade.
This year's NDP festivities will stretch over six weeks.
