MediaCorp launched its HDTV trial on 18 June 2006 over a new Channel 38.
About 1000 households were elected for the trial and each household is provided a special set top box (like the starhub cable vision type) to receive hight definition images, to be displayed onto LDC TVs or Plasma TVs that are labelled as "HD Ready". Being "HD Ready" means that the TV set must be able to display at least 720 lines of resolution (more lines means clearer picture). If you walk stores like Best Denki, Harvey Norman, the hype now is HDTV.
The trial had officially ended on 31 Dec 2006 but the formal launch date of HDTV services islandwide is not disclosed yet. As it is now, "Prison Break" is already broadcasted in High Definition format over Channel 38 (Beats me, I cannot find this channel when tuning the TV). |
