actually i dun really agree that slower footwork will result in slower ball speed.

personally, i prefer a natural footwork (speed in consideration) that is in tandem with your natural pushaway and swing. so in another words, your footwork timing should follow your natural swing motion and not the other way round (which might result in muscled swing like you mentioned).

if you allow the swing and release to be as natural as possible, the speed will come into play itself. of course, the initial ball position and follow-through are also vital in achieving ball speed.
