Businessman: Why I bought Monroe sex tape
April 17, 2008
A SEX tape featuring Marilyn Monroe has been sold for £750,000 ($2 million).
The 15-minute black and white flick is believed to have been shot in the 1950s before Monroe became a star.
The tape is said to show the late actress performing a sex act on an unidentified man, reported The Sun.
It has been bought by a New York businessman, who said he plans to keep it to protect Monroe's reputation.
Monroe died at 36 in 1962, due to an overdose of barbiturates.
Memorabilia collector Keya Morgan came across the tape while he was researching a documentary on Monroe.
According to Mr Morgan, citing an ex-FBI agent source, an informant made a copy of the clip, which ended up with his son when the informant died.
The informant had also tipped off the FBI in the '60s about the video's existence.
Mr Morgan managed to trace the son and acted as broker in the sale of the video to the New York buyer.
He said of the tape: 'You see instantly it's Marilyn Monroe - she has the famous mole. She's radiant.'
'JUST FOR ME?'
He added that the buyer had told him he was 'just going to lock it up'.
He told Mr Morgan: 'I'm not going to sell it out of respect.'
According to edited declassified FBI documents, the informant 'exhibited toagents a motion picture which depicted Marilyn Monroe committing a perverted act'.
The documents also say that Monroe's ex-husband, baseball player Joe Dimaggio, had once tried in vain to buy the film for £12,000.
