I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.
BUT I BOUGHT ACER 4920G, INSTEAD OF HP.
I guess the problem is that they installed
WINDOWS VISTA BUSINESS INSTEAD OF
WINDOWS VISTA HOME EDITION. If we had home edition, we would be able to skip this troublesome step.
But! I called ACER to ask about the problem, maybe you guys can go try it.

Now I'm stuck at logging into the NYP EMAIL.. they say the user is ur admin no, then the pw is your NRIC, but I try liao the logging in thing keep rebouncing back! dont let me go in!
