Things you need you know when you are purchasing a bowling ball. ( Not in Order ) 1) What level are you at?
If you are at the beginner level, i would recommand that you get a polyester ball and start bowling with a grip custom to your fitting. If you are starting on hooking and plan to buy a reactive ball, please get an entry level ball as it is inexpensive and you may change weight in the later part of your game. Doesnt mean that you buy an expensive ball, the ball will work for you. 2) What kind of conditions are you going to bowl on?
You need to know what are the lane conditions you are going to bowl and make the selection of the ball. (look under Coverstock) 3) Your ball speed.
Ball speed matters with your ball selection. Why is that so? If you have slow ball speed, your ball will hook more then bowlers with faster ball speed. If you were to purchase a matte surface ball, your ball may roll too early and lose energy when it reaches the pin, the ball will also hook too much. We only have limited space for us to shift!!!! 5) What type of coverstock you need?
Understanding coverstock is important. You need to match up the coverstock to the lanes that you are bowling. Basically there are a 4 coverstock in the market;
a) Urethane b) Pearl Reactive c) Soild Reactive d) Partical 6) Which type of core design? High RG or Low RG
I hope this helps

4) Your Rev rate.
Rev is also another point that you should consider. If you have a low rev rate, it would be recommanded that you get a Low RG ball because low rev cause the ball to skid longer down the lane. If your rev is high, you should try to get a High RG ball as so the ball will not over work for you.
How do we "read" the rev specification to determine what type of rev is suitable for your bowling style ?
