From another perspective, your boss's superior could be rating to see if you had the prospect for a vacant position or you had submitted your resignation so he came to see if there is any prospect of holding you. About what he said I shall not pry and/or guess, so sometimes it would be good to look at it broad mindedly.
Also, since this is work related it would be more appropriate for you to post this in "In The Workplace" of this forum??!!
