Road to South Africa: Lions drawn with Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Lebanon Singapore have been drawn into Group 4 together with Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Lebanon in the third round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Asian Zone qualifying tournament after the draw in Durban, South Africa last night.
Said National Team coach Radojko Avramovic: “There are no easy groups at this level and we'll look to surprise the favourites in our group.
All the groups look tough, not only Group 1 (Australia, China, Iraq and Qatar) but also the group featuring Japan, Bahrain, Oman and Thailand.
However, football is not just about the favourites. Saudi and Uzbekistan may be the favourites in our group but if football is only about the favourites, the game will not be as interesting as it is.”
The top two teams from each group will go through to the fourth and final group stage. That will feature two groups of five teams and the top two qualify for the finals.
The two third-placed teams will enter a play-off and the winners will take on the champions of Oceania in another play-off to decide the final place.
FIFA has already set the dates for the third stage qualification matches for February 6, March 26, June 7, June 14, September 6 and September 10.
