Hi arty_29, I don't really know how much one need cos I used credit card most of the time but I usually change about S$200 for a 1 week stay as you are expected to give tips in hotels and restaurants. You also need cash for taxis too. I usually give about 40 to 50 pesos (1 SGD = 31.4171 PHP) for tips to the hotel staffs depending on the level of service.
There's still quite a number of kidnappings in Philippines so try to avoid remote places if possible. Try to call for cabs from your hotel rather than hail one from unknown places if you are meeting your friend. If you need to shop, go to Makati area as it's pretty safe there since it's a protected area. Fyi, fresh water pearls are very cheap in Philippines. Time is a companion that goes with us on a journey. It reminds us to cherish each moment, because it will never come again.
