That's why the Singaporean husband is the poor thing - he gets to see his wife without the make-up!

Not just the Japanese, but the Koreans as well. In fact, I understand that Korean women never greet their husband when they return home, without their make-up. Not a bad idea (except, like what was mentioned, it's actually quite bad for the skin - my wife mentioned it'd tend to turn a shade of yellow from the metals in the ingredients), but it really showed how paternistic the culture is.
