Think you mean Ghost in the Shell, unless there's a spoof which I'm not aware of.
I think most of the movies mentioned so far are fairly mainstream.
Less mainstream stuff...... sooooo many lah, hard to name all, but here are some just off the cuff. Btw, not sure about award-winning, but there films are certainly worth the time to watch.
1) The Brothers McMullen. Brought Ed Burns to the international eye. Probably the only good thing he's done.
2) Clerks. Fantastic stuff. The sequel, so-so. Also others by Kevin Smith like Chasing Amy and Dogma.
3) Some stuff by David Lynch like Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet and of course, Twin Peaks.
4) A couple of films from Alejandro Jodorowsky like El Topo and The Holy Mountain. I though Eraserhead was weird until I watched The Holy Mountain. lol
5) I've also started watching some of the older movies from Woody Allen like Annie Hall. They were mainsteam during the release, but not so much now, I guess.
6) 3 Colours: Red/Blue/White.
7) Kiss of the Spiderwoman. William Hurt and Raul Julia. Great stuff.
8) Tetsuo the Iron Man.
9) Some other oldies that are cult status like Bladerunner, A Clockwork Orange, Plan 9 from Outer Space (can remember the Seinfeld episode talking about this), Dr Strangelove....... etc etc.
10) Brazil. Loved the movie, loosely based on orson welles' 1984.
11) Donnie Darko. Good stuff, gotta read the website in conjunction with watching the movie to make some sense out of it.
12) ......... Plenty more, but think I'll stop here for now.
