Default Re: Hong Kong hotel guests thrown out into the streets over unpaid loan

I think there are a few culprits here, namely the hotel owner, the bank and the government.

The hotel owner, is really so naive as to take the money as a gesture of goodwill when it should be taken as a loan and needs to be repaid. I felt that sometimes the Chinese tradition of doing things with goodwill involved is really a big flaw especially with today's society. Even goodwill has to be repaid and I could not comprehend why the hotel owner had not done so.

The bank, here is a classic example and illustration of a legal loan shark. Using their empowered authority to the full sense. I cannot understand their high handedness here. Can you imagine what it would be like if this is a home? Some loopholes in the legal system? Well read further.

The government, I certainly deplore these people here. First, the judge that issued the court order, where is his common sense. To issue such an order when he/she should jolly well know that the hotel till date was still operating and there will be guests staying and coming in to stay. With a country that is dependent on tourism for its economic well being, I do not think issuing such order without due consideration is becoming of a mindful justice.

Then there is the tourism board, who should have known about this. Immediately informing the all the travel agents and airlines would have at least salvaged some damages with immediate remedial actions for living in guest and arriving guests. They should have also went further by setting up counters at the affected hotel to redirect hotel guests and provide legal assistance.

I felt that this whole episode is a picture of a insensitive and unbecoming society and I certainly hope that I will be able to see the last of it. How could these people undermine their authority and responsibilities? If you say that they lost their senses, then where has all the education which they had undergone go to? I hope fervently that I would not see this happening to Singapore and leave people expressing expletives.
