i always fall asleep in class, and i dont blame the teacher once. i blame myself because im just not the academic kind of person. it takes me two minutes to fall asleep in front of a text book.
as for running around the field, it teaches you to hurry if you know you are running late. while i agree with you that punishing may not work for all, there has to be some form of deterrence to prevent more from following suit.
as a student it is your job to pay attention, be punctual and study well. not to comment whether lesson is boring or the teacher is not creative. if you do your job, its unlikely you will get into trouble.
same goes for not talking when a teacher or classmate is talking at the front of the class.
