no it will not hurt them. i try asking from the pet shop and they say that this is a good method as hamsters that are involve in fighting normally are being provoked by smell. so removing the smell by using powder can help to reduce the chances of the fighting.
recommend to use baby johnson or those powder that are suitable for babies as these kind of powder are less strong.
