Usually when my pay comes, I'll allocated my savings, bills, meals and money for my parents. After that, the remainder I leave it in my POSB for variable expenses.

So for each month, there's only that amount for me to spend. I don't monitor how much each of my purchases are, but the total must not be above that amount.

Some months I go drinking and movies more, so I buy lesser stuff. Sometimes I don't go out often during weekends so I can spend on probably a massimo dutti shirt, etc.

It's better to look at the overall picture than to look at individual spendings. Then the chances of being penny wise and pound foolish is lesser.
