MM Lee says outcome of problems in Iraq, Iran will affect Singapore
SINGAPORE : Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew says the outcome of the problems in Iraq and Iran will affect Singapore.
He says this is because the outcome of the violence and bloodshed in the Middle East will affect the attitudes of Muslims in Southeast Asia.
And the region has nearly 250 million Muslims in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.
So Mr Lee reiterates his call for the United States to stay the course in Iraq.
He says the US must be multi-lateralist in its approach, in order to isolate the jihadist groups.
This means the US should rally the European Union and countries like China and all non-Muslim governments to its cause.
Americans, he says, can overcome the unexpected developments in Iraq.
With a wide coalition, Mr Lee is confident that the US and her democratic values and ideals will prevail.
The Minister Mentor was speaking on Thursday, at the Southern Methodist University during the Tate Lecture Series in Dallas, Texas. - CNA /ls
